Vermont college’s closure expected to ripple into town’s economy

Southern Vermont College will lose its accreditation on August 31 due to a lack of resources and finances.

There are 330 students at SVC. School officials have been trying to work with students about to graduate, to get them their accredited degrees before summer is over.

SVC says they came to an agreement with the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts for students to transfer there and they’re also partnering with Norwich and Castleton Universities to help students here make a smooth transition and transfer credits.

The school says they are meeting with the bank on Friday. They expect the school will be sold, with some historic restrictions.

Hear from the college’s president, a student and a business owner in the video of Jill Konopka’s story.
