podcast to highlight Cleveland blockchain effort, Blockland, in season 6

CLEVELAND, Ohio —, a podcast with more than 100,000 downloads a month, will highlight Cleveland’s blockchain effort, “Blockland,” for its sixth season.

Blockland, which launched early last summer, brings together business and civic leaders to make Cleveland a technology center focused on blockchain. The group, along with Destination Cleveland, organized the Solutions conference which drew 1,500 people to the convention center in December.

“Something is happening in Cleveland, Ohio. A movement, unlike anything it’s seen before, has taken over the city,” promises the podcast promo. “On season six of, we’re taking you behind the scenes of a movement that’s happening inside the civic buildings all over Cleveland, a movement to reposition this blue-collar city into a global technology center.” co-host Mike Belsito is married to Hannah Belsito, vice president of destination development and community affairs at Destination Cleveland. When she started organizing the conference, Mike became interested in the Blockland movement.

He told co-host Michael Sacca about Blockland. Sacca was involved in cryptocurrency in its early stages — back when trading Bitcoin seemed shady.

“It’s always been this anarchist movement,” he said. “Bitcoin’s the future, money is dead.”

So seeing a blockchain movement like Blockland, led by car dealership owner Bernie Moreno, embraced by civic leaders and focused on mainstream applications, was intriguing.

“I think the juxtaposition of where it had been and where it is going was very interesting,” Sacca said. “And for Cleveland which isn’t a San Francisco or even a New York, it was fascinating to see (the city) gravitating towards something like blockchain.”

Sacca said it was easy to get people to speak about Blockland, which he didn’t expect. Episodes will address the definition of blockchain is, the Blockland conference, Moreno and naysayers.

This is the second season is experimenting with telling a story over multiple episodes. Last season, the podcast highlights the stories of three entrepreneurs in different stages of business.

You can listen to on all major podcast services or online here. So far, only the introductory episode is released.
